In environmental portraiture, the surrounding background is used to convey crucial information about a subject’s personality, interests, and lifestyle. This course was designed to encourage the intermediate photographer to examine and create environmental portraits. Our approach focused on fictional storytelling and/or reality-based portraiture–in other words, our backdrops didn’t to be strictly factual.

The Environmental Portraiture Class exhibited their photos at the Loft at UCSD. The “10″ students printed and matted five photos which were on display at the entrance to the Loft.
